Relief Society Teach Self-Reliance Skills The Relief Society assists in teaching members to become self-reliant in six areas: Education. Read, write, do basic mathematics, and communicate effectively. Physical Health. Avoid harmful substances, implement a healthy diet, get proper exercise and sleep. Employment. Upgrade employment and increase earning potential to better provide for family and foster personal growth. Home Storage. Prepare for adversity by storing, using, and knowing how to produce and process essential food items. Resource Management. Use resources frugally, pay tithes and offerings, avoid unnecessary debt, and save for the future. Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Strength. Live the gospel and strengthen personal and family relationships. These skills are taught in Sunday Relief Society meetings, in home, family, and personal enrichment meetings, and in visiting teaching visits. "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing" (D&C 88:119). |
