Teach Welfare Principles

The Relief Society teaches women to care for the needy, become self-reliant, and give service. This teaching is done in the home by visiting teachers, in Relief Society meetings, and in home, family, and personal enrichment meetings. Sisters are helped to both understand and to apply welfare principles in strengthening their homes and families.

"I like the way the Relief Society teaches personal and family preparedness as 'provident living.' This implies the husbanding of our resources, the wise planning of financial matters, full provision for personal health, and adequate preparation for education and career development, giving appropriate attention to home production and storage as well as the development of emotional resiliency" (Spencer W. Kimball, "And the Lord Called His People Zion," Ensign, Aug. 1984, 5).
