At the local congregational level, Church leaders and others help people find work. Leaders can obtain support from employment centers, which provide ideas, materials, resources, and other assistance.
The Church and its members are encouraged to be self-reliant and independent (see Doctrine and Covenants 78:13–14). When individuals understand how to be self-reliant in their careers, they find suitable and honorable employment and provide for themselves, their families, and others.
At times, people are unable to meet their employment needs without help from others. In those circumstances, they should turn first to their families, and then, if necessary, to the Church.
In 2001, the employment program of the Church helped more than 150,000 people find jobs, enroll in training, and start or improve their small businesses.
