Stewardship

Stewardship is a person's God-given responsibility to manage life and property with proper regard for the rights of others. All that we have—our talents and abilities as well as material goods—comes from our Heavenly Father. We have a stewardship over those things with which He has blessed us, and He has commanded us to use those things to care for ourselves, our families, and those in need.

"In the Church a stewardship is a sacred spiritual or temporal trust for which there is accountability. Because all things belong to the Lord, we are stewards over our bodies, minds, families, and properties. (See D&C 104:11–15.) A faithful steward is one who exercises righteous dominion, cares for his own, and looks to the poor and needy. (See D&C 104:15–18.)" (Spencer W. Kimball, Ensign, Nov. 1977, 78).
