Eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating, have reached epidemic levels in America in all segments of society, irrespective of race and culture. It is estimated that there are at least 8 million victims of this disorder in the United States alone, with 6 % of serious cases resulting in death. There are few adequate programs or services to treat this disorder. The cost of inpatient and outpatient care is high. Eating disorders can lead to lifelong health problems, immeasurable suffering for victims and families, and even death. |
