A young man in his late twenties came to the employment center needing to increase his income. His wife was expecting their first child and would be leaving her job. He was earning only $8.50 an hour.
After evaluating his family needs, he concluded that when his wife stopped working, he would need to double his current income. He began a self-reliance plan and decided he wanted to learn to be a network engineer. This training would cost more than $10,000. He promptly contacted a certain school that had agreed to give all employment center referrals a 50% discount. He was excited with the school and the $5,000 discount.
As a young boy he had been hit by a car and received a severe head injury. Through his hard work, he had almost fully recovered. The injury did, however, leave some lingering challenges. The employment center suggested he contact the State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, which agreed to pay the remainder of the tuition.
The young man presented his plan to his pleased bishop, who offered encouragement and support. In less than one year the young man will be qualified to get a job at the income level his family needs to be career self-reliant.
